My Journey to Find the Best Natural Beauty Products

Natural, organic, toxic free, chemical free. With all of these adjectives being thrown around, its hard to distinguish what is real and whats not.

I'm a big advocate of health and wellness. As I get older, I have become more and more aware of what I'm foods I'm eating and what products I'm using.

I guess I never really thought about makeup or skincare too much until just a couple of years ago. I was always the person who hated wearing makeup, so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on things.

But, I've realized that a lot of times you do get what you pay for. Yes, you might be paying twice as much for some makeup, but you won't have to reapply it throughout the day. Not to mention that they aren't as bad for your skin as some less quality items.

Think about it, your makeup sticks on your face for hours clogging your pores. You want items that are going to do this the least amount possible, and other products to help wipe the makeup away. Your skin absorbs 64% of whats on it, so you want to make sure you're wearing the right stuff!

On my search to find natural products, I found that there were so many options out there, and I didn't even know where to start. I knew that I wanted things that were good quality and affordable. But, where do you even begin to get these products?

Steps to finding the right natural makeup for you

Do your research

Just because something says "all natural" doesn't mean that it is. Learn to read labels, read reviews if you need, and get educated. Look.

Avoid fragrance

Mia Davis, the organizing director of The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics recommends staying away from fragrance. “Fragrance can be quite a cocktail of chemicals that are either toxic or have never been tested for safety. There can be hundreds of chemical ingredients in one fragrance,” says Mia Davis. She recommends using paraben-free, fragrance-free concealer and foundation that use minerals for color and natural emollients (such as coconut oil) for texture.

Use fortifying ingredients

Vitamin B5 can help make eyelashes stronger. Other ingredients like rose hip oil, argon oil, organic aloe, glycerin, organic hydrolyzed myrtle leaf extract, and organic sunflower seed oil are great fortifying items.

Avoid synthetic makeup

Most synthetic makeup products contain potentially harmful chemicals including parabens, phthalates, and SLS.

Places that I shop

Sephora is great for makeup, but they have a small range of natural makeup. Tarte and Bare Minerals are sold here, and have some great natural makeup. I've been wearing Bare Minerals for years because I love the coverage, versatility, and durability of the makeup.

Follian has become one of my favorite places to shop for natural products. They have a wide range of items that are all natural.

I have become obsessed with Glossier. What I love about the company is how it really looks to enhance your naturally beauty rather than cover it up, or make it look like something else.

Yes, the end-all-be-all of online shopping. Even Amazon sells products that are all natural, too. Plus free 2 day shipping? Yes. please!
